Even as a beginner you should ensure that whatever humidor you buy has all the basic properties of a good humidor. Fortunately small humidors from well-known manufacturers, like adorini, don't come with a large price tag.

If, on the other hand, you're fairly certain that smoking cigars is something you will be continuing, you should consider starting out with a slightly larger model. Most cigar smokers quickly encounter problems due to lack of space.
